Early 1900s Ceramic Baseball Figures Collection (9)

This collection of nine baseball figural pieces includes both decorative and comic designs, with at least five having been produced by the premier German ceramic manufacturing firm of Schafer & Vater. All are ceramic in composition and date from the early 1900s. 1) Schafer & Vater ashtray featuring a sliding figure; 4 x 3 x 1.5 inches, minor paint loss, Ex. 2-3) two identical Schafer & Vater figural pieces (possible pen/pencil holders), each wearing a catcher's mask; height: 5.25 inches, paint loss to the pants on each and a minute surface crack in the arm of one, otherwise Ex. 4) Schafer & Vater figural piece of a player sitting (possible pen/pencil holder), Height: 4.75 inches, minor paint loss, Ex; 5) Schafer & Vater match holder and strike, the lettering along the base reads "Scratch Your Match On My Patch," 4.5 x 2.25 x 3.75 inches, Ex. 6) Possible Schafer & Vater figural piece (unmarked) of a young girl in a baseball cap (possible pen/pencil holder), a ball rests at her feet, "Germany" is stamped along the base; height: 6 inches, Ex-Mt. 7) Bizarre figural piece with detachable head, no manufacturer stamp, the piece is lettered "Ty Cobb" along the base, and the head (in the shape of a baseball) sits freely on top of the shoulders; height: 5.5 inches, the bat and arm have been repaired, otherwise Vg-Ex, displays beautifully. 8) Flask with figural baseball player attached, no manufacturer stamp; height: 7 inches, minor paint loss, Ex. 9) Figural baseball figure dressed as a pirate, no manufacturer stamp, "Base-Ball" is lettered along the base; height: 7.5 inches, repair to neck, otherwise Ex-Mt. All of these delicate figures are extremely rare. This is the largest collection we have ever seen of these unusual rarities. This outstanding collection has been assembled one figure at a time by a very dedicated collector over a period of many years. Total 9 items. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000.
