Babe Ruth and Dizzy Dean Watch Collection (3)
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $580.00
This collection of three classic baseball watches is comprised of a 1930s Dizzy Dean wristwatch, a 1948 Babe Ruth wristwatch with original case, and a Babe Ruth pocket watch (date of manufacture unknown). 1) Circa 1935 Dizzy Dean Wristwatch. The watch face features an illustration of Dean in uniform pitching along with his facsimile signature. Dizzy Dean is considerably rarer, as well as an earlier issue, than the far more well known Babe Ruth watch. The facing is lightly oxidized, a common problem with this watch due to the materials of manufacture, but actually presents better than most examples we have seen; the black leather band may not be original and the initials "DM" have been lightly scratched onto the reverse of the watch case. The Dizzy Dean watch displays beautifully but does not appear to be in working order. 2) 1948 Babe Ruth Wristwatch. Presented in original plastic baseball case as issued. The watch face features a bust-length image of Ruth and his facsimile signature. The wrist strap is not original. Appears to be in working order although we cannot guarantee perfect time will be kept. Both the watch and plastic ball case are in Excellent to Mint condition. 3) Babe Ruth Pocket Watch. The face design for this pocket watch is identical to that of the wristwatch. While we are familiar with this pocket watch, and have seen another example more than twenty years ago, its exact year of manufacture has never been definitively determined, though it may very well also date from 1948. The watch displays some wear to the case on the reverse; it is otherwise in Excellent condition and appears to be in working order. Total 3 watches. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $580.00
