Large Collection of Player-Endorsed Baseball Table Games (20)
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $3,190.00
Since the 1880s, baseball players have lent their images and endorsements to a wide variety of indoor baseball games. Offered is an extraordinary collection of player-endorsed baseball games, spanning from the 1890s to the 1970s, including many significant rarities. This collection was assembled one game at a time by our consignor over a period of decades. The earliest game dates from 1897 and is endorsed by Cap Anson. The most recent games are endorsed by stars from the 1960s/70s such as Carl Yastrzemski and Denny McLain. Almost all feature an image of the endorsing player on the board or box (or both). Each game description lists, in order, the manufacturer, the condition of the box (if present), the condition of the game board and the dimensions of the game box. While we attempt to note whether or not all of the major game pieces are included, it is possible that some of the games are missing a few minor pieces or game cards. 1) 1897 Capt. Anson's Pocket Score Board for Base Ball Games. The United States Sporting Goods Co. Box is Gd, interior is Vg-Ex. 4.25 x 7, comes with the original metal pins for scoring. While not technically a game (it was used to score a baseball game), it is usually listed in baseball game reference books. 2) Circa 1918 Christy Mathewson's Base Ball Game. Mathewson Game Co. Fair to Good. 15 x 19 inches. Board only. No box or game pieces. Extremely rare, one of only several known. Similar in design to Mathewson's "Big Six Indoor Base Ball Game" issued in 1922. This game may have been the prototype for it, as it is lettered "Pat. Applied For 1918" along the base of the game board. 3) 1921 Babe Ruth National Game of Baseball. Keiter-Fry Mfg. Co. Fair to Good. 7.25 x 19 inches. No box or game pieces. This is an extremely rare game. 4) 1932 Lou Gehrig Official Play Ball. Christy Walsh. The board (18 x 18 inches) is in Vg-Ex condition with no game pieces present. To date, no example of the box has ever been found. 5) 1930s Waner's Baseball Game. Waner's Baseball Inc. Box is Gd-Vg, interior is Ex, missing approximately 20 game cards. 6) Mid 1930s Bambino. Johnson Store Equipment Company. All of the game cards and wooden pegs appear to be present. 8) Circa 1940 Walter Johnson Base Ball Game. No manufacturer listed. Box is Gd-Vg, interior is Vg-Ex; 10 x 14 inches. Comes with the original spinner, nine of the original 10 coins and a die (coins and die are housed within the spinner). This game is frequently identified as dating from the 1920s but we believe it actually dates from circa 1940. 9) 1948 Babe Ruth's Official Baseball Game. Toy Town Corporation. Ex. 25 x 19 inches. All of the key game pieces appear to be present including the batting figure (w/wire push cord), pennant, string cord, magnet, balls, backstop and wire fielding rods. 10) 1952 Robin Roberts Sports Club Baseball Game.
