1906 to 1960s Baseball Postcard Collection (438)

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $4,060.00

Impressive collection of baseball-theme postcards dating from 1906 to the 1960s. It is possible that a few cards date earlier and a few date later. Approximately 80% of the 438-card collection pictures, either in photographic or illustrated form, baseball stadiums and ballparks (mostly from the 1940s through the 1960s), with the balance (65 postcards) being baseball-theme postcards of other types (almost all circa 1910). While Major League stadiums (both past and present) represent the majority of the stadium images, numerous postcards (approximately 50) are devoted to minor league parks, local town fields, college stadiums, spring training facilities and even a few foreign locales. Included are souvenirs from Yankee Stadium, Shea Stadium, the Polo Grounds, Ebbets Field, Wrigley Field, Forbes Field, Comiskey Park, Fenway Park, Memorial Stadium, Braves Field, Municipal Stadium, Crosley Field, Dodger Stadium and Sportsmen's Park. The non-stadium cards do not fall into any specific category (i.e., comic postcards, trade cards, etc.) other than that they relate to baseball in some way. Included are real-photo postcards, embossed cards, advertising, and illustrated novelty cards. Many postally used. This is a totally unpicked collection from an old-time advanced collector of many types of cards (the same gentleman who collected the baseball-theme trade cards offered elsewhere in this auction). There are many hidden rarities in this group. We have provided many images online. Cards range from Gd to Ex-Mt, averaging Vg-Ex. Total: 438 postcards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+. SOLD FOR $4,060.00
