Ron Lewis Original Baseball Artwork Collection (10 Paintings)

Collection of ten original baseball artworks created by renowned sports artist Ron Lewis. Eight of these paintings were used in the production of cards sets. Two were commissioned for use as magazine covers. All are signed by the artist. 1-5) The highlight of the collection is five original paintings that were commissioned for use in the 1985 P.R.E. Pete Rose Set. This set was devoted to Pete Rose's career. In light of Rose's problems in the years following the issuing of this set, the card featuring him on the telephone in the clubhouse is of special note. Four of the five artworks picture Rose as a member of the Reds, while the fifth features him as a member of the Montreal Expos. Three of the paintings are executed in oil on board; the other two appear to have been done in either water color or gouache on board. Each painting measures 8 x 10 inches. The paintings are accompanied by two of the corresponding issued cards from the set. 6) Original oil on canvas painting of Clyde McNeal used in the production of the 1991 Ron Lewis Negro League Postcards. That set of thirty cards was created as a fund-raiser for the Negro League Baseball Players Association. 8.5 x 11.5 inches. 7) Original oil on board painting of Dwight Gooden used in the production of the 1985 Renata Galasso Dwight Gooden card set. This painting was used to illustrate card number one in the thirty-card set, the remaining cards consisted of photographic images. 8 x 10 inches. Accompanied by a complete set of thirty cards (Mt). 8) Original oil on canvas painting of Dwight Gooden. "1985 Cy Young Award Winner" is painted above his image. 11 x 14 inches; framed to total dimensions of 13 x 16 inches. 9-10) Two original oil on board paintings, each featuring a number of top former stars. One (12 x 15 inches) includes images of Walt Alston, Brooks Robinson and Juan Marichal, while the other (16 x 21.5 inches) includes Pee Wee Reese, Don Drysdale and Harmon Killebrew. Both of these paintings were commissioned for use as magazine covers. Each has been framed to slightly larger dimensions. Total: 10 paintings. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,160.00
