1911 Diamond Gum Pin Eddie Plank

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,160.00

Presented is a very sharp high-grade example of Hall of Famer Eddie Plank from the 1911 Diamond Gum pinback series. Diamond Gum pins have long been recognized as one of the rarest and most desirable of all early baseball pinback sets. To the best of our knowledge, there has only been one complete set of all twenty-nine known Diamond Gum pins ever assembled! This is a particularly desirable sample from this rare set as Plank is pictured in the very same pose as appears on his famous T206 card. It is interesting to note that the Diamond Gum pin of Plank is much rarer than the T206 Plank, though of course this could be said of any specific player in the Diamond Gum pin set. The pin has some light toning (as is almost always the case with this issue) and is otherwise in Nr/Mt-Mt condition. The original back paper on the reverse is intact and advertises "Get A Collection of Ball Player's Buttons Free With Diamond Gum." Diameter: 7/8 inches. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $1,160.00
