Gigantic 1925 Pittsburgh Pirates Celluloid Button

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,508.00

Extremely rare and stunning large-format 1925 Pittsburgh Pirates celluloid button is among the most impressive of all baseball celluloids. This team-composite button features twenty-eight portraits of the 1925 World Champion Pittsburgh Pirates, including Hall of Famers Pie Traynor, Ki-Ki Cuyler, Bill McKechnie, and Fred Clarke. This extremely rare button is designed with a "U" shaped hook on the back to allow for hanging on a wall. In thirty-five years we have seen just a few of these extraordinary celluloids and have not had one in many years. This example came out of the blue from a noncollector in Texas. Few baseball items of any kind can compare with the majestic display value of this gigantic 1920s celluloid. Diameter: 7.5 inches. Excellent to Mint condition. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,508.00
