1926 Gene Tunney and Jack Dempsey Pinback Set (2)
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,276.00
Extraordinary set of 1926 celluloid pinbacks, one featuring Gene Tunney and the other featuring Jack Dempsey, produced as souvenirs for sale onsite at the legendary world heavyweight championship fight. Each has the original silk banner attachment (reading "Dempsy-Tunney Bout, Centennial Phila., Sept. 23, 1926") and hollow white metal boxing glove charm attachments as originally made. We have never seen another example of either with the fragile silk ribbon still intact, let alone a matched pair. Philadelphia Badge Company advertising back paper is intact on the reverse of each. In terms of rarity, design, and significance, this set represents one of celluloid collecting's most desirable boxing pinback issues. This is an extremely impressive set of pins. It is unlikely we will ever see a set again in this incredible and unimprovable Mint condition. Total 2 pins. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,276.00
