1889 A17 Allen & Ginter World's Champions Album (Plus Duplicate Pages)

Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $1,856.00

1889 Second Series Allen & Ginter World's Champions premium album features all fifty cards from the N29 Allen & Ginter set, including six baseball players (Ewing, Fogarty, Getzien, Miller, Morrill, Ryan), and eight boxers. The tobacco companies spared no expense in producing these gorgeous full color lithographic premium albums, which were available only by mail in exchange for coupons packed with tobacco products (in this case Allen & Ginter). This 14-page album (including covers) is in very high grade for any 1880s tobacco premium album. The string binding is complete, original and intact. The covers and interior pages are bright and fresh. The front cover has a minor crease in the lower left and right, and some very minor corner wear. The interior pages are Near Mint. It is unlikely that the interior pages have ever seen the light of day outside of our glancing at them for the purpose of grading. Strong condition for this classic, extremely popular and colorful premium album which represents such an outstanding value among nineteenth-century tobacco issues. Overall Excellent condition. As a bonus, the complete album is accompanied by an additional ten duplicate interior pages of a second 1889 Allen & Ginter premium album, including the page with baseball players Getzin and Miller. The duplicate pages have string binding holes torn but each is otherwise in very clean Vg-Ex condition. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,856.00
