Circa 1940s Set of Six Negro League Pennants
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,276.00
Collection of six Negro League pennants dating from the 1940s. This collection may represent a complete set of 1940s Negro League pennants of this style, as these six pennants include every team we have ever seen from this series. Their rarity aside, these full-size pennants are distinguished by their impeccable condition, with each having been beautifully preserved over the years. It is unlikely that a finer set could possibly exist. The teams represented here are the Philadelphia Stars, New York Cuban Stars, N.Y. Black Yankees, Newark Eagles, Homestead Grays, and Baltimore Elite Giants. Each of the pennants measures 23 inches in length with the exception of the Baltimore Elite Giants (24 inches) and N.Y. Black Yankees (26.5 inches). These pennants usually surface only one or two at a time. This is the only set of six that we have ever offered. Each pennant retains all of its original paint, displaying virtually no crazing or cracking as is so commonly found with pennants of this vintage, and the colors remain bold and vibrant. Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt condition overall. Total: 6 pennants. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,276.00
