1927 Babe Ruth Original News Photo - 60th Home Run

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $696.00

Original 1927 Acme news photo of Babe Ruth hitting his record-setting 60th home run. It is interesting to note that this is a different and far superior image than is usually seen of this historic event. This is a rare original, first generation photo. The original news caption is still attached to the reverse and reads "Babe Ruth surpasses his former home run record by hitting 60th homer - Yankee Stadium, New York City - Photo shows Babe Ruth batting out his 60th homer." Also on the reverse is an "Acme Newspictures" ink stamp and a date stamp reading "Oct 3, 1927 - N.E.A." Acme Newspictures was a division of N.E.A. (Newspaper Enterprise Association), one of the nation's first news syndicates. The photo (10 x 8 inches) displays some minor toning in the foreground resulting from the adhesive agent used to affix the caption on the reverse. There has been some minor touchup to Ruth's image (a common editorial practice) and editorial marks are also present above his image and near the right border. Two print imperfections are visible both the left and right of Ruth's image. The photo has a small edge tear in the right border. Displays beautifully. Very Good condition overall. Reserve. $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $696.00
