Babe Ruth News Photo Collection (11)

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $2,350.00

This collection of eleven original Babe Ruth news photos pictures Ruth taking part in a number of diverse activities (both on and off the field). The photos all appear to date from the 1920s and include Ruth on the golf course, bowling, talking to a radio announcer, performing with a youth band, and posing with the Yankees famed mascot Ray Kelly. In an interesting side note, Barry Halper later met Ray Kelly in 1995. After regaling Barry with dozens of stories regarding Ruth, he consented to inscribe the wire photo offered here: "To my good friend Barry - Little Ray Kelly - 11/15/95 - Photo taken 1st Opening Day at the Yankee Stadium in 1923." All of the photos (each approximately 7 x 9 inches) display minor flaws commonly associated with original wire photos including light rippling, abrasions, and minor foxing. Seven photos also display editorial notations and heavy outlining of the images. Good condition overall. All of these photos were displayed on the walls of Barry's collecting room for decades. Each has been matted and framed to approximate total dimensions of 13 x 11 inches. Please Note: Images of all the photos can be viewed on our Web site. From the Barry Halper Collection. Total: 11 photos. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $2,350.00
