Circa 1948 Babe Ruth Figural Desk Clock
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,643.75
This classic Babe Ruth figural electric desk clock produced by the Abbotwares company features a bust of Ruth between two baseballs, on which are recorded his single-season and lifetime home run records, respectively. This clock was the top prize offered by a baseball punch board game, circa 1948, and was probably available for sale as well. The left baseball, displaying his single-season home run total, is missing the two anchoring screws needed to secure it to the base. This could easily be repaired if desired, and as is the ball stands on its own and the piece displays as intended. The electrical cord is missing its wall prong (removed intentionally as a safety precaution). The clock displays a Near Mint overall appearance. This clock was a fixture on Barry's desk and can be seen in countless pictures of Barry's collection; he always considered it one of his favorite desk display pieces. Height: 10 inches. From the Barry Halper Collection.
Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500.
