Collection of four original 1930s news photos, each signed by Joe DiMaggio in blue Sharpie ("10"). All of these photos were saved by Barry Halper and were personally signed by Joe for Barry. The earliest is a 1935 Associated Press photo capturing DiMaggio as a member of the San Francisco Seals. The photo (6 x 8 inches) features the original wire caption, dated “7-26-35," taped to the reverse. Two date stamps also appear on the reverse, with the first bearing the date “7-26-35” and the second reading “7-27-35.” The second photo (7.75 x 10 inches) pictures DiMaggio sitting in a train and is date stamped “Feb 1938” on the reverse. The reverse also bears the following two pencil notations, “Rice Photo 2/1/38” and “Joe DiMaggio leaves Penn Station for Chicago.” A few stray ink notations also appear on the reverse along the top border. The third photo (7 x 9 inches) pictures DiMaggio reading a newspaper during one of his early season holdouts. The original Associated Press wire caption, dated "4-20-38” is taped to the reverse. Two date stamps also appear on the reverse, with the first bearing the date “4-20-38” and the second reading “4-5-39.” The final image, which is an Associated Press photo (7 x 9 inches), captures DiMaggio watching a game from the grandstand. A number of date stamps appear on the reverse, with the earliest reading “4-23-36” and the latest “4-5-39.” All of the photos display a number of flaws common to standard news photos including, but not limited to, minor tears and creases, abrasions, editorial notations and color outlining of images.
