Large Collection of New York Yankees Scorecards 1948-1971 (108)

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,880.00

"You can't tell the players apart without a scorecard" or so the usual sales pitch went when you walked into a Major League park fifty years ago. For that reason, everyone usually bought one. What everyone didn't usually do was save them. Today, scorecards are desired by collectors for their nostalgic value. Seeing Mantle or DiMaggio's name in the lineup usually brings back a lifetime of childhood memories for fans who grew up during the height of the Yankees dynasty. The ads, pictures, and information provided give the flavor of being at the game, which is where each of these time capsules was, of course, originally purchased. Offered here is a large assortment of ninety-eight Yankee scorecards, spanning the years 1948 through 1971, from the Barry Halper Collection. Many of these were probably saved by Barry himself from his childhood treks to the "Big Ballpark in the Bronx." The following is a list of the years represented in this grouping, along with the number of scorecards from that respective season. 1946: one (scored). 1949: two (both scored). 1950: three (all scored). 1951: five (four scored). 1952: five (all scored). 1953: seven (three scored). 1954: four (two scored). 1955: five (two scored). 1956: five (none scored). 1957: three (none scored). 1958: one (partially scored). 1959: six (none scored). 1960: twenty (none scored). 1961: five (one scored, no home runs recorded for either Mantle or Maris). 1962: eight (none scored). 1965: eight (none scored, one bears the ink notation "Mickey Mantle Day" on the front cover). 1966: three (none scored, one is missing its covers). 1967: three (none scored). 1968: two (none scored). 1970: one (not scored). 1971: one (not scored). Also included are eight New York Giants scorecards (spanning the years 1946-1956) and two Brooklyn Dodgers scorecards (1952 and 1956). The scorecards range in grade from Good to Excellent, averaging Very Good, most with normal condition flaws common to game scorecards such as center folds, light creasing, and in a few cases minor notations on the covers. Total: 108 scorecards (98 Yankee scorecards, 8 Giants scorecards, and 2 Dodgers scorecards). Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $1,880.00
