Two Copies of The Babe Ruth Story - One Signed by Ruth and One Inscribed by Ruth (2)
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $5,875.00
Presented are two hardcover first editions of The Babe Ruth Story by Babe Ruth as told to Bob Considine (E. P. Dutton & Co., New York, 1948). One of the books has been flawlessly signed by Ruth in blue fountain pen ("10") upon the title page. It is an exceptional signed example of this classic. The other book is not signed in a traditional manner, but has been personally inscribed by Ruth in blue fountain pen on the title page "To Judy, a wonderful girl and Dick a swell guy - From your 'Pops' - 1948." It is not known to us who Judy and Dick were (though we have no doubt that Barry, who was close with the Ruth family, knew), but it is obvious they were close friends of Ruth due to the familiarity of the inscription and the very informal "Pops" signature. The signed book displays some moderate general wear to the cloth-covered boards and is otherwise in Excellent condition. Missing the original dust jacket. The inscribed book has some stains and moderate wear to the cloth-covered boards; however, the interior pages remain clean and bright. Very Good condition overall. This book is accompanied by a dust jacket dating from a later printing (12th Printing, as noted on the interior) that is in Good to Very Good condition. Each book (5.75 x 8.5 inches) is 250 pages. From the Barry Halper Collection. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Total 2 books. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $5,875.00
