The Babe Ruth Story Signed by Babe Ruth

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $9,400.00

Presented here is Barry Halper's finest signed copy of one of the most desirable of all baseball books: a first edition of The Babe Ruth Story by Babe Ruth as told to Bob Considine (E. P. Dutton & Co., New York, 1948). This particular copy features a near-flawless Ruth signature (grading "10") scripted in blue fountain pen on the title page. The Babe Ruth Story was published just months prior to Ruth's death, a time when his failing health precluded him from honoring all of the many autograph requests he normally received. Thus, signed copies of this book are not only rare but also represent one of the most important and final items ever penned by the legendary "Sultan of Swat." For that reason they are highly prized by collectors today. As previously mentioned, this copy was the finest example in Barry's collection and is complete with its original dust jacket. The gray cloth covers display only very light wear, including a small abrasion on the front, and the 250-page book (5.75 x 8.5 inches) is in Excellent condition overall. The dust jacket is slightly faded along the edges and displays light wear, including a few tiny border tears and creases. From the Barry Halper Collection. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $9,400.00
