1957 Mickey Mantle Store Model Glove Box Signed
Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $3,231.25
Extremely rare 1957 Rawlings Mickey Mantle store model youth glove box (model MM9). The design of the box features Mantle in uniform on each of its four panels. The front and back panels display an identical photo of Mantle in a batting stance. The side panels each feature Mantle in a different stance wearing his fielder’s glove. Mantle has signed the front of the box in blue Sharpie (“10”) across his image. The original glove also accompanies. The glove, which features a “Mickey Mantle Triple Crown Winner” stamping in the pocket, displays no use. On the reverse of one of the fingers there appears to be a Mickey Mantle ink signature; however, it has bled into the leather so much that it can barely be seen and it is impossible to even tell if it is a vintage Mantle signature or if someone simply scripted his name. The faded signature aside, the glove remains in Excellent to Mint condition. The box (8.75 x 5 x 7.25 inches) displays moderate wear throughout, including a few areas of light discoloration to both the front and rear panels as well as one of the side panels. Remnants of the original price tag remain on the lid. In Very Good condition overall. This is an extremely rare Mantle item with an extraordinary display value. From the Barry Halper Collection. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+. SOLD FOR $3,231.25
