Circa 1955 Mickey Mantle "Batter-Up" Pancake Advertisement
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,997.50
If you wanted to sell pancake batter, who better to bring in to lend a hand in marketing than Mickey Mantle? This circa 1955 store advertising banner enlists Yankee star Mickey Mantle in promotion of the C & C company's aptly named "Batter Up Pancake Batter." Mantle is pictured in uniform to the right, where "Mr. Batter Up" (as Mantle is referred to in this promotion) endorses the product by stating "Make every day a Batter Up day - I do!" This is a very wholesome and extremely rare Mantle advertising display (the first we have ever seen) from one of Mantle's least-known regional endorsements. The display (17 x 5.5 inches) has held up fairly well over the years, especially given that it is printed on thin paper stock. The banner displays a vertical center fold line (as issued) as well as a few very light creases. There is a very small, extremely light stain in the lower right corner that is barely noticeable (mentioned strictly for the sake of accuracy). Bright, clean, and ideal for display, as intended. In Very Good condition overall, with a far superior appearance. The banner has been mounted (by means of clear photo corners) and framed to total dimensions of 21.75 x 9.75 inches. From the Barry Halper Collection. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $1,997.50
