Miller Huggins Perez-Steele Hall of Fame Postcard Original Artwork
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,527.50
Original watercolor-on-board painting of Miller Huggins created by Dick Perez for the Perez-Steele Hall of Fame postcard set. Signed by the artist in the lower right. This artwork is from the fourth series of Perez-Steele Hall of Fame postcards published in 1981. The Hall of Fame postcard set was the first Perez-Steele art card set ever produced and is universally recognized as the landmark Perez-Steele card issue. The design and style of the cards was inspired by the Allen & Ginter set of 1887. Publishing of the set began in 1980 and was then updated every few years, through 2001, to add new inductees. This artwork hung on Barry’s living room wall for twenty-five years (alongside four other original Perez-Steele postcard artworks of Yankee legends presented in this auction). The artwork measures 11.5 x 15.5 inches and has been matted and framed to total dimensions of 19 x 23.5 inches. From the Barry Halper Collection. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500.
