1982 Pete Rose and Steve Carlton Signed Original Judy Everett Paintings (2)
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,762.50
Offered here are two oil-on-canvas paintings by Judy Everett that have been inscribed, respectively, by Pete Rose and Steve Carlton. Produced shortly after the Phillies 1981 World Championship season, each painting features a large portrait of the respective player surrounded by smaller images of him in action. Rose has inscribed his painting in black Sharpie ("10"), "To Barry my good buddy - Pete Rose." Carlton has personalized the second artwork in blue fine-point marker, "To Barry - To the world's biggest collector - Steve Carlton #32." The Carlton signature grades "8"; however, the inscription is somewhat light, grading "5." The Carlton piece is signed and dated ("1982") by the artist in the lower right. The Rose painting is signed by Everett in the lower left. Judy Everett was one of the premier sports artists of the early 1980s and is best known today for having produced what are recognized by collectors as the most highly regarded of all painted "portrait baseballs," many of which were originally commissioned by Barry Halper. This is an extremely attractive pair of signed original oil-on-canvas paintings paying tribute to the greatest legends of the Phillies first and only World Championship season. Each painting measures 18 x 24 inches and has been individually framed to a total dimension of 21.5 x 28 inches. Total two paintings. From the Barry Halper Collection. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $1,762.50
