Gigantic New York Yankees Single-Signed Ball Collection Including Jeter, Clemens, Matsui, Rivera and Rodriguez (133)
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $4,700.00
Barry Halper loved autographs and was quite a Yankee fan, so it is not surprising that he happened to squirrel away a few extra single-signed balls of Yankee players. Each of the 133 balls offered here has been individually signed by a player who, at one point in his career, played with the New York Yankees. Unless otherwise noted, all of the balls are either official American, National, or Major League balls that date from the 1980s or later. Sixty-eight different players are represented here, most of whom played with the Yankees within the last twenty years. The players represented here (with the number of balls signed by each player, if more than one, noted in parenthesis) are broken down into two groups based upon where they have signed the ball: the sweet spot or the side panel. Sweet Spot Signatures: Steve Balboni (2), Jesse Barfield (3), Yogi Berra (3), Wade Boggs, Aaron Boone, Jim Bouton, Roger Clemens (4), David Cone (3), Jose Contreras (3), Frank Crosetti (circa 1950 “Ralph Kiner League” ball), Johnny Damon (2), Chili Davis (2), David Delucci, Whitey Ford, Mike Gallego, Oscar Gamble, Kareem Garcia, Jason Giambi, Dwight Gooden, Goose Gossage, Drew Henson, Orlando Hernandez, Steve Howe, Mark Hutton, Reggie Jackson (6), Derek Jeter (2), Nick Johnson, Roberto Kelly, Tim Leary, Jim Leyritz, Kevin Maas (2), Hideki Matsui (5), Don Mattingly, Alan Mills (2), Hensley Meulens (2), Raul Mondesi (4), Mike Mussina (3), Jeff Nelson (2), Graig Nettles, Paul O’Neill (2), Joe Pepitone, Melido Perez (3), Pascual Perez, Andy Pettitte, Lou Piniella (2), Willie Randolph (3), Juan Rivera, Mariano Rivera (5), Mickey Rivers, Alex Rodriguez (2), Red Rolfe (circa 1950s MacGregor store ball), Deion Sanders, Gary Sheffield, Ruben Sierra (3), Moose Skowron, Alfonso Soriano (4), Shane Spencer, Andy Stankowitz, Darryl Strawberry (2), Danny Tartabull (4), Joe Torre (3), Ruben Ventura, David Wells (2), and Roy White (2). Also included in the collection is a ball signed by both Don Larsen (sweet spot) and David Wells (side panel). Approximately fifty percent of the balls are in Near Mint condition. The remaining balls display varying degrees of age toning and/or light soiling, and are in overall Very Good to Excellent condition. Approximately twelve balls have a small piece of tape applied to a side panel identifying the player. The signatures, penned predominantly in either blue or black ink, range from “6” to “10,” averaging “8/9.” From the Barry Halper Collection. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Total: 133 balls. Reserve $500.
