1985 Pete Rose Limited Edition #1/250 Bronze Statue by John Petek
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,410.00
This impressive bronze artwork of Pete Rose, created by artist John Petek in 1985, is one of only 250 ever produced and was issued in commemoration of Rose's record-breaking 4,192nd career hit. The montage captures Rose in three classic poses: in his batting stance, in mid swing and hugging his son after breaking Cobb's record. The artist's engraved signature and date ("85") appear along the side of the piece, as does the hand numbered notation "1/250." An additional engraved notation, reading "Pete Rose '4192' Sept. 11 '85," appears on the front of the statue. The entire piece has been mounted upon a wood base featuring a plaque bearing Rose's name and that of the artist. As noted previously, this is the very first of the numbered edition which was produced in 1985 and its seems only appropriate that it was acquired by Barry Halper, the world's foremost collector. Bronze artworks are very expensive to produce, and because of this sometimes fewer pieces are actually made than authorized. We have only ever actually seen one other example of this bronze, and that example was in the personal collection of Cincinnati Reds team owner Marge Schott. The piece (base included) measures approximately 23 (L) x 14 (D) x 18 (H) inches and weighs sixty-five pounds. In Near Mint condition. From the Barry Halper Collection. Please Note: Due to the size and/or weight of this lot shipping costs (depending on where it is sent and its method of shipping) may be substantial. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,410.00
