Hall of Famer Signed Checks: Cobb, DiMaggio, Mantle, Williams (4)

Collection of four Hall of Fame player signed checks is comprised of the following: 1) Ty Cobb Personal Check. The check, dated 7/14/30 and made out to John Roesich in the amount of $8.55, is drawn on the Georgia Railroad Bank of Augusta, Georgia, and is signed "Tyrus R. Cobb" in black fountain pen ("9/10"). The check (8.25 x 3 inches) has a light stain along the bottom, a few small tears and a vertical crease, as well as normal bank cancellation holes and stamps. Cobb's original receipt stub has been affixed to the check along the left border. Good to Very Good condition. 2) Joe DiMaggio Business Check. A "Yankee Clipper Enterprises, Inc., check, dated 7/1/87 and made out to his sister, Marie DiMaggio (not in DiMaggio's hand) in the amount of $1,200. The check (8.25 x 3 inches) is drawn on the Bowery Savings Bank of New York and has been signed "Joseph DiMaggio" in blue ink ("7"). Normal bank cancellation stamps. Ex-Mt. 3) Mickey Mantle Personal Check. The check, dated 7/26/85 and made out to his son Mickey E. Mantle (not in Mantle's hand), is drawn on the Parkway Bank & Trust of Dallas, Texas, and is signed "Mickey Mantle" in blue ink ("10"). The check (8.25 x 3 inches) displays a horizontal and three vertical fold lines, a small circular stain in the upper right corner, and normal bank cancellation stamps. In Very Good condition. 4) Ted Williams Personal Check. The check, dated 6/11/83 and made out to Dave Zimmerman in the amount of $200, is drawn on the State Street Bank and Trust Company of Boston, Massachusetts, and is signed "Theodore Williams" in blue ink ("10"). This particular check is especially interesting as it bears Ted's notation "Conn. Show" in the the lower left corner, and almost certainly relates to one of Ted's very early signing show appearances. The check (8.25 x 3 inches) has three vertical folds as well as a few light creases. In Very Good condition. From the Barry Halper Collection. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Total 4 checks. Reserve $400.
