1988 Mickey Mantle Signed Restaurant Lithograph Inscribed To Barry Halper
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,410.00
The deep friendship between Mickey Mantle and Barry Halper is evidenced here in this phenomenal signed lithograph, created by well-known artist Burt Silverman, that was issued in conjunction with the opening of Mickey Mantle’s Restaurant in New York City in 1988. At that time, Mickey asked Barry if he would do him a personal favor by loaning the restaurant many items from his fabled baseball collection to provide the ideal decor. Barry, of course, was more than happy to honor the request, and for years Mantle's restaurant displayed dozens of uniforms and extraordinary framed items from the Halper Collection, literally becoming the "New York home base" of the Halper Collection, enjoyed by thousands year round. This signed litho was a personal “thank you” card from Mickey to Barry for his help in launching what is now one of New York’s landmark eateries. Mantle has flawlessly inscribed the piece “To Barry – My best wishes and thanks for coming in and helping out! – Mickey Mantle.” Mantle’s signature and inscription are both boldly scripted in black Sharpie and grade a perfect “10.” This image was created specifically to appear on the cover of the menus at Mickey Mantle's Restaurant. The artwork, which pictures Mickey on the steps of the dugout at Yankee Stadium, was specially commissioned from artist Burt Silverman by Mantle as the signature artwork representing Mickey Mantle's Restaurant. The offered print was a personal gift by Mantle to his good friend Barry Halper; it has remained in his collection until this time. This is an extraordinary Mantle signed item in all respects and, as one might imagine, one of Barry’s most cherished pieces from Mickey Mantle. The litho (25.5 x 37.25 inches) is in Mint condition and has been handsomely matted and framed to total dimensions of 33 x 42.5 inches. From the Barry Halper Collection. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,410.00
