Ted Williams Autographed Items Collection (5)
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,410.00
Barry Halper's friendship with Ted Williams afforded him signing opportunities very few other collectors enjoyed or could have imagined. As a result, Barry's collection included a myriad of Ted Williams signed pieces, including this eclectic assortment of five items: 1) This has got to be one of the more unusual items Ted Williams ever signed: Full box of Sears Ted Williams brand 2 3/4-inch Magnum Plastic Shotgun Shells signed on the front by Williams in blue Sharpie ("8/9"). The box (4.25 x 2.5 x 4 inches) displays general wear including a number of minor crease and border tears. All of the shells remain intact as issued. In Very Good condition. 2) Sports section of the December 8, 1937 edition of the San Diego Evening Tribune reporting on the sale of Ted Williams' San Diego Padres contract to the Boston Red Sox. The headline reads "Ted Williams Bought By Red Sox" and features a small photograph of Williams along the bottom of the front page. It has been signed by Williams in blue Sharpie ("10") on the front. The paper (16.75 x 22.5 inches, unfolded) is toned and has a few minor edge tears. The left border has small punch holes which could easily be matted out. In Very Good condition. 3) Official American League (Brown) ball signed by Williams in blue ink ("9/10") across the sweet spot. In Near Mint to Mint condition. 4) Souvenir hand mirror decorated on the reverse with a reproduction of a Ted's Creamy Root Beer advertisement. Signed by Williams in blue Sharpie ("7") on the reverse (contrasts poorly against the dark background). The mirror (3 x 2 inches) is in Excellent condition. 5) Ted Williams photo plaque commemorating his 1966 Hall of Fame induction. The wooden plaque (16 x 13 inches) features two small color photos of Williams at the dais accepting his award, a reproduction of his Hall of Fame plaque, the text of his speech, and career and biographical notes. A small white plate in the bottom right hand corner has been signed by Williams in blue Sharpie ("9"). In Near Mint condition. From the Barry Halper Collection. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Total: 5 items. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $1,410.00
