Ted Williams Signed Limited-Edition Armand LaMontagne Lithograph

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $1,762.50

Limited-edition lithograph, by renowned artist and sculptor Armand LaMontagne, signed by Ted Williams in blue Sharpie. Williams' signature grades a perfect "10" and, in keeping with the size and scope of this piece (28 x 38 inches), the signature measures an extraordinary eight inches in length. The lithograph print, titled "Home Run," was produced in 1994 and is hand-numbered "1/2" in the lower right corner. We are reasonably confident that the limitation number of two refers to the number of lithographs signed by Williams. We have never seen another signed example. Striking in appearance and ideal for display, this piece was a favorite of Barry Halper, which he hung directly above his collecting-room office desk. It is interesting that artist Armand LaMontagne, who long had a very close association with Ted Williams and has created a number of notable paintings and sculptures of Williams (including the famous life-size wooden sculpture at the Hall of Fame), chose to picture him not in a baseball uniform, but on the banks of a stream engaging in his second favorite sport: fly fishing. Williams was a world-renowned champion fly fisherman and his name in that field remains as well known and respected to fans of that sport today as it does in baseball circles. Armand LaMontagne is one of the nation's foremost artists and his works can be found in many important venues including The Baseball Hall of Fame, The Ted Williams Museum and Hitters Hall of Fame, The New England Sports Museum, The Patton Museum, The Gerald Ford Museum, and The Basketball Hall of Fame. The lithograph is in Mint condition and has been matted and framed to total dimensions of 38.5 x 48.5 inches (there are a few areas of moderate finish loss along the edges of the gilt frame). Please note: due to the size and/or weight of this item, the shipping charges for this lot (depending on where it is sent and method of shipping) may be substantial. From the Barry Halper Collection. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,762.50
