1910 Philadelphia Athletics Team Composite Display Photograph

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,292.50

This stunning composite display photograph is comprised of both portraits and full-length images of twenty-three members of the World Champion 1910 Philadelphia Athletics. Full-length images of pitcher Jack Coombs and catcher Ira Thomas appear along the top, with a portrait of Murphy between them and a sweeping panoramic view of the A's ballpark in the background. Below are portraits of the Athletics including those of manager Connie Mack, Frank Baker, Chief Bender, Eddie Collins, Eddie Plank, Cy Morgan, Jack Barry, Stuffy McInnis, Harry Davis, Rube Oldring, Jack Lapp, and Topsy Hartsell. An exterior shot of Shibe Park, as well as two white elephants, complete the unique design. Each player is identified in print below his respective image and "World's Champions" is lettered along the base. This is an extremely elaborate and artistic photographic display of unrivaled quality and design. The players pictured here formed the nucleus of one of baseball's most memorable dynasties. The design and production of baseball-related photographic display composites such as this, once very popular, is a lost art, but this simply amazing photographic composite represents it at its zenith. The A's captured four pennants and three World Championships between the years 1910 and 1914. Financial difficulties forced Mack to sell most of his top players in 1915 and the A's soon found themselves a second-division club for years to come. The photograph (13.5 x 8.75 inches) displays a few tiny border tears (of no consequence and mentioned strictly for the sake of accuracy) and has been mounted upon a sturdy cardboard backing which appears to be the original mount for the piece. Flawless contrast. Near Mint condition. We've never seen another example of this extraordinary photographic display. Beautifully matted and framed to total dimensions of 19 x 15 inches. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,292.50
