2002 Derek Jeter New York Yankees Signed Game-Used Home Jersey (Steiner)

Starting Bid - $2,000.00, Sold For - $15,275.00

New York Yankees home jersey worn by team captain and perennial All-Star shortstop Derek Jeter in 2002. This is perhaps the single finest Derek Jeter jersey in existence and the only example ever graded a perfect A10 by MEARS. Its dual provenance is equally impressive. This jersey originates directly from Yankees-Steiner Collectibles, the official collectibles company of the New York Yankees, which exclusively markets all authentic game-used Yankees jerseys, and is accompanied by an LOA from the company attesting to its game-used status. Additionally, Jeter himself has personally confirmed the garment's authenticity by inscribing it in silver paint pen (grading "8/9") on the reverse, "Derek Jeter - 02 Game Used." The white-knit pinstripe jersey features the club's "NY" logo on the front and the number "2" on the reverse. All letters and numerals have been appliquéd in navy tackle twill. Located on the left front tail are a "Russell Athletic" label, an adjacent "48" size tag, and a tag reading "2 inch Extra Length." A Major League Baseball patch appears on the rear collar. The jersey is completely original, with no alterations, and displays light wear throughout. Few Yankee players have made such an impact upon their arrival as did Jeter in 1996. Jeter seemed to be the missing piece to the Yankees play-off puzzle and his Rookie of the Year performance that season helped lead the "Bronx Bombers" to their first World Championship in eighteen years. Since Jeter's debut, the Yankees have won six pennants and four World Championships, not to mention ten out of eleven Division titles. Like Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, and Mantle before him, Jeter personifies the current Yankees dynasty and it seems assured that one day his plaque will hang both in Yankee Stadium's Monument Park and Cooperstown. Jeter batted .297 with 18 home runs, 75 RBI, and 124 runs scored in 2002. Today, his .317 lifetime average ranks sixth among all active players. Graded A10 by MEARS (5 point base grade, plus 5 points for provenance). All authentic game-used modern-era Yankee jerseys originate directly from Steiner. This is one of only six Jeter jerseys listed in the MEARS census and is by far the highest-graded example (the next highest example is graded A5). This is undoubtedly as fine a Jeter jersey as one could ever hope to obtain and the standard by which all other examples will always be measured. LOAs from Yankees-Steiner Collectibles, Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS, and James Spence/JSA. Reserve $2,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $15,275.00
