2004 Roger Clemens Houston Astros Alternate Jersey

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,645.00

Roger Clemens Houston Astros alternate jersey dating from his 2004 Cy Young Award winning season. The red knit jersey displays the team name, “Astros,” embroidered across the front. The number “22” appears on the left breast and reverse. “Clemens” is lettered on the reverse above the number. All letters and numerals are appliquéd in tri-color tackle twill (black/red/tan on the front, tan/red/black on the reverse). An Astros team patch appears on the left sleeve, while the right sleeve displays a 2004 All-Star Game patch (the game was played in Houston that year). Clemens’ uniform number, “22,” is written in black marker along the collar. As MEARS notes in its evaluation, the lack of manufacturer’s tags is not unusual for Clemens jerseys due to the fact that he often removes them. Aside from these tags having been removed, the jersey is completely original, with no other alterations, and displays light use. Clemens enjoyed another amazing season in 2004, finishing the year with an 18-4 record and 2.98 ERA. Those numbers later earned him a record seventh Cy Young Award at season’s end. Clemens currently ranks eighth on the all-time list with 348 career wins, and should he return this year for a full season, he might eclipse Nolan Ryan as the career leader in strikeouts (he trails by only 110). Graded A5 by MEARS (no post-1987 jersey can achieve a higher grade than A5 without additional provenance). LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $1,645.00
