1914 E145 Cracker Jack #103 Joe Jackson
Starting Bid - $5,000.00, Sold For - $21,150.00
Graded EX+ 70 by SGC. Tremendous ultra high-grade example of #103 Joe Jackson from the classic 1914 Cracker Jack series. This is the second-highest graded 1914 Cracker Jack Joe Jackson ever graded by SGC, and if it were not for the incredible Gem Mint example that was the highlight of the 1914 Cracker Jack "miracle set" that was discovered a couple of years ago (most of which were Nr/Mt-Mt or Mint), this would be the highest-graded example by SGC. It is rare to find any 1914 Cracker Jack in such high grade, let alone such a stunning high-grade example of Joe Jackson. This card is universally recognized as one of card collecting's great classics, and one of Joe Jackson's most desirable and striking cards. 1914 Cracker Jacks are naturally much more difficult to find in high grade than their 1915 counterparts because the 1914 #144 series cards were only issued in boxes of Cracker Jack, while the 1915 set could be obtained as a factory set directly from the company by mail. Jackson is featured on this card in a batting pose which is based on a photograph by legendary photographer Charles Conlon, set against a deep red background. Bright and clean, both front and back, with virtually no caramel staining whatsoever (just the tiniest little hint on the left border, mentioned strictly for the sake of accuracy). 1914 Cracker Jacks, of course, are almost always found with serious caramel staining. This card is strong in every way. It is well centered, with outstanding color, perfect registration, an extremely bold red background, and four square corners showing just the slightest hint of wear (predominately the upper left). The slightest hint of a diamond cut tilt to the image is not unusual for Cracker Jacks and is very slight (and, interestingly, confirms an original factory cut). This is a stunning card with a Nr/Mt appearance which would be a highlight in any world-class collection of Cracker Jack, Joe Jackson, or classic vintage baseball cards. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000++. SOLD FOR $21,150.00
