1993 Mark McGwire Oakland A's Jersey
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $822.50
Mark McGwire Oakland A’s road jersey dating to the 1993 season. The gray knit jersey is lettered “Oakland” across the front and features the number “25” on both the left breast and reverse. “McGwire” is lettered on the reverse above the number. All letters and numbers are appliquéd in green on gold tackle twill. An Oakland A’s “elephant” patch appears on the left sleeve. Situated on the left front tail are a “Russell Athletic 48” label, a laundry-care tag, and a flag tag reading “2 inch Extra Length.” As MEARS makes note in its accompanying letter, this jersey was issued to McGwire in 1993, but the shell was manufactured in 1992. The jersey is completely original, with no alterations, and displays minimal use. The lack of apparent use is understandable, given that McGwire missed 135 games in 1993 due to a foot injury. Despite his limited playing time, he still managed to finish the season with 9 home runs and 24 RBI while posting a .333 batting average. McGwire was one of the top sluggers in the game in 1993 and just five years later he became the first player to break Roger Maris’ long-standing single-season home run record. McGwire finished his career with 583 home runs, which places him seventh on the all-time list. Graded A5 by MEARS (no post-1987 jersey can achieve a higher grade than A5 without additional provenance). LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800.
