1983-1985 Cal Ripken Jr. Signed Pro Model Bat
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,645.00
This Louisville Slugger signature model "P72" bat dates from early in Ripken's career and has been graded an ideal A8 by MEARS. The two-toned bat features Ripken's uniform number ("8") written on the knob in black marker. Significant use is displayed along its entire length in the form of ball marks, deeply embedded stitch marks, cleat marks, and grain swelling. Ripken has signed the bat, "Cal Ripken Jr.," in blue marker (grading "7") on the handle. Cal Ripken Jr. was one of the greatest players of the postwar era and his amazing record of playing in 2,632 consecutive games will probably never be broken. Ripken appeared in nineteen consecutive All-Star Games during his twenty-one year career (1983-2001) and is one of only twenty-six players to amass over 3,000 hits in his career. Other notable accomplishments include 431 home runs, a Rookie of the Year Award (1982), two MVP Awards (1983 and 1991), and two Gold Glove Awards (1991 and 1992). He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2007, his first year of eligibility. Length: 34.75 inches. Weight: 32.8 ounces. Graded A8 by MEARS (base grade of 5, plus 3 points for use). To date, this is one of only three A8 Cal Ripken Jr. pro model bats in the MEARS bat census, with only two other examples having been graded higher (both A8.5). LOAs from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS, Vince Malta & John Taube/PSA DNA, and James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $1,645.00
