John Hannah 1985 New England Patriots AFC Championship Salesman's Sample Ring
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $1,880.00
This New England Patriots salesman's sample ring, produced in commemoration of the team's 1985 AFC championship season, is identical in design to the one issued to the team's perennial All-Pro guard, John "Hog" Hannah. The 10K gold ring, manufactured by Balfour, features a reddish/pink stone on the front, atop which sits a football design featuring seventeen faux diamonds. Lettered around the top of the perimeter, in raised relief, are the words "New England Patriots - AFC Champions." The right shank features the Patriots team logo, above which is the name "Hannah." The year, "73" (Hannah's rookie season), appears below the logo. The left shank displays the year, "1985," and an AFC trophy design. Also displayed are the scores of all three of the Patriots 1985 AFC playoff victories and a Super Bowl XX logo. All of the designs and lettering on the two shanks are done in raised relief. The interior of the band is engraved "LGB" (Lloyd G. Balfour) and "TCG" (Ten Carat Gold). The New England Patriots defeated the New York Jets, Oakland Raiders and Miami Dolphins to earn the right to play in Super Bowl XX. Unfortunately, the team's amazing postseason run was ended by the Chicago Bears, considered by many to be one of the greatest teams ever assembled. John Hannah, who was the club's number-one draft pick in 1973, was one of the game's premier offensive linemen and a ten-time All-Pro selection. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1991. The ring is in Near Mint condition. Size: Approximately 10. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,880.00
