Jack Nicklaus Signed and Worn Golf Shoes
Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $1,292.50
Once worn by the legendary "Golden Bear," Jack Nicklaus, this pair of signed golf shoes was provided as a special favor to an elementary school charity by Jack Nicklaus. They are accompanied by a letter of provenance directly from "Golden Bear International Inc." Nicklaus has individually signed each of the white Rockford golf shoes (size 9 1/2) in black marker (grading "8-9") along the outer side. Included with the shoes, and perfect for display with them, is an 8 x 10-inch signed color photo (Nr-Mt) of Nicklaus on the green wearing what appears to be this exact style shoe. Like the shoes, Nicklaus has signed the photo in black marker (grading "10") to the left of his image. These shoes were donated by Nicklaus to the Lynch Elementary School in Oregon for use as a raffle prize. They are accompanied by a letter of provenance (8.5 x 11 inches), dated March 12, 1999, on Golden Bear International, Inc., stationery, that reads in full: "Dear Scott: In response to your request for an item for the Seventh Annual Carnival and Raffle on April 16, 1999 to benefit Lynch Elementary School, we are pleased to donate an autographed pair of Rockport golf shoes worn by Jack Nicklaus. Best wishes for a successful event." It has been signed by Pam Miller, the company's auction coordinator. Golden Bear International, Inc., is Nicklaus' personal business enterprise. Further provenance is provided by the inclusion of the original mailing box (10 x 12.5 x 4 inches) featuring Nicklaus' name on the Golden Bear International, Inc., mailing label. The shoes display light wear and are in Excellent condition. Though Nicklaus turned fifty-nine in 1999, he still remained very active on the links, winning the Wendy's Three-Tour Challenge (with Tom Watson and Hale Irwin), the Office Depot Father/Son Challenge (with Gary Nicklaus), and the Diners Club Matches (with Tom Watson). LOA from James Spence/JSA.
