1909 E92 Dockman & Sons Honus Wagner
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,937.50
Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. This rare Dockman & Sons caramel issue from 1909 shares designs with several other closely related candy issues (Croft's Candy, Nadja Caramels, etc.) from the same era. The offered example of Hall of Famer Honus Wagner (throwing pose) is an exceptional example. Bright and clean, with vibrant colors, and centered slightly to the left. The back is also bright and clean, with bold text. A very tiny indentation on the bottom border appears to be the only factor keeping this impressive card from receiving a grade of Excellent. Caramel cards in general are much rarer than tobacco cards of the era. Because they were issued with caramels one card per package and sold to children (as opposed to being sold to adults with tobacco), they also tend to survive in a much lower grade. This is a strong Vg-Ex example of the legendary Honus Wagner from this rare, early twentieth-century candy issue. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $2,937.50
