Extraordinary Circa 1962 John Glenn Vintage Signed Photo Display Inscribed To Astronaut Ed White

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,057.50

The camaraderie shared by the first generation of U.S. space pioneers is poignantly conveyed here in this inscription by John Glenn to fellow astronaut Ed White. The 11 x 14-inch original color photograph captures the historic launch of Friendship 7 on February 20, 1962 (piloted by Glenn during the first U.S. manned orbital space flight), and has been inscribed by Glenn in black felt-tip pen (grading "9/10"), "Best regards to Ed - and every success to you in the future - this was a 'big moment' for me and I'm sure you have some even bigger ones in the future - J. H. Glenn Jr." Unfortunately, the great achievements Glenn predicted for White never came to fruition. White, along with crewmates Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee, perished tragically on January 27, 1967, when a flash fire consumed their command module during a launch pad test of the Apollo/Saturn space vehicle. This extraordinary signed photograph originates directly from Ed White's estate and is accompanied by a letter of provenance from his son, Ed White III, in which he writes "This inscribed launch photograph was a special favorite for Ed White due to his high esteem for John Glenn." This is a stunning, unique, and very historically significant space program-related signed display piece. The photo is in Near Mint condition and has been beautifully matted and framed to total dimensions of 20 x 22.5 inches. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,057.50
