Neil Armstrong Apollo 11 Signed Original Photo Display (20 x 16-inches)

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,880.00

Original 20 x 16-inch color photo captures Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, and the other two crew members of Apollo 11 as they make their way into the decompression chamber upon arriving safely back to earth in 1969. The photograph has been magnificently signed by Armstrong in black felt-tip pen (grading "9/10") directly below his image. Simply as a display photograph, this is one of the most impressive space program-related display pieces we have ever seen. We do not know the history of the production of this photograph. It is the only example we have ever seen and it was obviously produced at a significant cost, and specifically intended for display. Despite his international fame, Neil Armstrong has always been somewhat reclusive, an extremely reluctant signer for fans, and has religiously avoided all public signing events. For that reason, the demand for Armstrong signed items has always far exceeded the supply. Armstrong signed photos of this size and significance are exceptionally rare and this is the first such example we have ever offered. The photograph displays a number of small creases and minor edge tears, visible only upon very close examination, as well as a small abrasion in the upper right. None of these minor flaws, however, detracts from the piece's extraordinary overall Excellent appearance. This is a stunning display piece. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 27.5 x 24 inches. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,880.00
