1910 E103 Williams Caramel Ty Cobb

Starting Bid - $2,000.00, Sold For - $9,987.50

Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA. Stunning example of Ty Cobb, the key card of this very rare and classic 1910 era candy set. The E103 Williams Caramel set is easily distinguished from other caramel sets of the era by the bright red background highlighting each player's portrait. As noted on each card along the lower margin, The Williams Candy Company was located in Oxford, Pa., and this candy was very likely issued on a somewhat regional basis. This fact almost certainly accounts for their great rarity. When they are found, they usually have serious condition problems, which is not surprising considering that these cards were issued to children one card per package with candy. This E103 Williams Caramel Ty Cobb is an exceptional example with extraordinary eye appeal. This is a gorgeous card! Bright, clean, crisp, with a flawless image and a bright red background, beautifully centered, with four square corners (exhibiting just the slightest hint of wear), a hint of light, even toning over most of the blank reverse, and the most insignificant tiny crease at the extreme edge of the right border. This would be a tremendous high-grade example for any E103, let alone Ty Cobb. We grade this card Vg-Ex/Ex, with a stronger Excellent appearance. Only one E103 Williams Caramel Ty Cobb has ever been graded higher by PSA (that example is graded PSA EX 5) and we would be surprised if the offered example did not have at least as strong, if not greater, overall eye-appeal. This is a sensational example of one of Cobb's most desirable and striking cards. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000/$6,000. SOLD FOR $9,987.50
