Circa 1934 National Biscuit Company Toy Collection (3)
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $3,818.75
The National Biscuit Company placed great importance upon the promotion of its product name, even to the point of extending its campaign to kids, who could influence the decisions of their parents and who themselves were the consumers of tomorrow. Offered here are three rare National Biscuit Company toys dating to the early 1930s: two identical horse and wagon pull toys and a car with double-wagon pull toy. These are very high quality toys, which is not surprising as they were made expressly to represent and to advertise the company name in the homes of consumers. The horse and wagon toys are identical in design and feature the National Biscuit Company name on each side of the wagon. The toy moves by pulling the front string, with the attached levers creating the motion of a "galloping horse." The entire unit measures 20.5 inches in length, with both the horse and cab measuring approximately 8.5 inches in height. The top and base of the wagon, the body of the horse, and the wheels are all made out of wood. The sides of the wagon and the legs of the horse are constructed of metal. The famed "Uneeda Boy" dressed in his customary yellow rain slicker, is the "driver" of the vehicle and is also constructed of wood. Both units are complete and in working order, and include the original chains on the back gate. Both wagons also include a number of the original toy cookie and cracker packages (7 total) issued with the toy. One of the "Uneeda Boy" drivers has a drilled hole in the area of his hands (possibly for holding reins to the horse), while the other doesn't. Also, the position of the pull rope on one horse is attached via a hole in his ears, while the other is attached to the tip of the nose. Each toy displays moderate wear commensurate with its age and former use including some light chipping to the paint on both the horse and wagon. One of the wagons also displays a small scratch and dent. Overall, both are in Excellent condition. The car and wagon pull toy is similar in design and features an automobile in front of two attached storage wagons. Each wagon compartment features the United Biscuit Company name on each side and features two side doors which open by means of a latch. All of the components are constructed of wood with the exception of the sides of the wagon compartments which are metal. Like the horse toy, both of the compartments are filled with the small original toy cookie and cracker packages (10) issued with the piece. The toy, fully engaged, measures 27 inches in length and the wagons stand 6.25 inches high. Moderate wear is evident, including loss of paint to a few areas, and the toy is in perfect working order. In Excellent condition overall. Total: 3 toys. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $3,818.75
