Circa 1937 National Biscuit Company "Mickey Mouse Cookies" Advertising Display

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $705.00

Rare circa 1937 advertising display issued by the National Biscuit Company in promotion of its Mickey Mouse Cookies. The colorful window poster features a large image of Mickey Mouse announcing "We're at the grocers now! - Mickey Mouse Cookies - Wholesome.....Delicious." Below his image is a depiction of the cookie carton picturing a number of Disney cartoon characters including Mickey, Donald Duck, and Pluto. A 1937 Walt Disney Enterprises copyright notice appears in the lower right. According to our consignor, the association between the National Biscuit Company and Walt Disney Enterprises was very short-lived, but not for the reason one would assume. Sales of the cookies were fine. The profits made by the company, however, were negated by the exorbitant fees Disney charged for the use of its characters, and production soon came to a halt. For that reason, all items relating to Disney and The National Biscuit Company are very rare today and are highly desired by advertising and Disney collectors alike. The store display (9 x 12 inches) exhibits a horizontal center crease, running from border to border, as well as a minor diagonal crease in the lower right corner. The poster is bright, crisp, and clean, with exceptionally strong visual appeal. While the piece is technically in Very Good condition, its minor flaws do not detract in the least from its otherwise Excellent appearance. Framed to total dimensions of 10.75 x 13.5 inches. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $705.00
