Charles Addams original artwork, signed by the artist in the lower left. Date: 1954. Description: Woman showing a pendant at a party, unaware of the native behind her with a blow gun. Caption: "Isn't it exciting? You know there's supposed to be a curse on it." Medium: Pencil. Image Area: 10.5 x 8.25 inches. Publication History: Preliminary drawing for a cartoon that was eventually published in The New Yorker on June 12, 1954. A tear sheet of the published cartoon accompanies the drawing. Condition: Fine. Provenance: Purchased in November 1995 from Illustration House, the world's premier auction house specializing in illustration art. A formal appraisal in writing by Frederic Taraba (necessary for the settling of the estate) accompanies and lists an appraised value for this work of $2,800. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 16 x 13.5 inches. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $2,350.00
