1991 Original Peanuts Baseball Sunday Comic Strip by Charles Schulz

Starting Bid - $5,000.00, Sold For - $23,500.00

This original ten-panel Peanuts Sunday comic strip, produced in 1991, is dated "4/7" and has been signed by Charles Schulz in the bottom right corner. Original Peanuts dailies are highly prized by a wide spectrum of collectors today, but Sunday strips are all the more prized due to their size, extreme rarity, and extraordinary display value. Original Peanuts strips featuring the characters playing baseball are particularly rare and hold a very special place in the hearts of fans and collectors. This baseball strip, published on the eve of opening day in 1991, features beleaguered manager Charlie Brown once again forced to listen to the advice of his malcontent right fielder, Lucy. As always, even when he attempts to comply to Lucy's wishes, he can never be perfect in her eyes. The demand for original Peanuts comic strips, especially Sunday strips, far outweighs the supply and they are seldom seen on the open market today. This particular strip, which has been in private hands since purchased in an art gallery in 1992 (original paperwork accompanies), represents an ideal example in all respects and is the first baseball-theme Peanuts Sunday strip we have ever handled. It is also interesting to note that Peanuts strips from this era are far rarer than those dating from earlier years. Peanuts has been popular for over fifty years. A true testimony to its universal appeal is the fact that even after Schulz's death in 2000, Peanuts continues to run (in the form of reprints) in thousands of newspapers nationwide. This is an exceedingly rare and extraordinary original Peanuts Sunday strip with ideal baseball content. The strip (23.25 x 15.75 inches) is in Mint condition. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 30 x 22.5 inches. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000+. SOLD FOR $23,500.00
