1939 R156 Gum, Inc. "True Spy Stories" Complete Set (24)

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $587.50

"This is a True Spy Story. The names of some of the characters have been changed in order not to embarrass the government." This important announcement, appearing at the top of the reverse of each of the twenty-four cards in Gum, Inc.'s thrilling "True Spy" story cards, set the tone for one of card collecting's most fascinating sets. Offered is a complete set of this very scarce 1930s non-sport card issue which features scenes and text illustrating the history of espionage from the days of the American Civil War to World War II. Four cards grade Vg-Ex, nine Vg, and eleven slightly lesser (the front of the cards have a Vg-Ex to Ex appearance, but the cards technically grade lower, mostly Gd, due to minor paper loss on the backs). The intriguing subject matter and colorful artwork have always made this set a favorite with collectors. This is a very attractive set, with all cards bright and clean, and with an overall appearance far superior to that suggested by our technically accurate grading composite. Total 24 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $587.50
