1939 R156 True Spy Stories Complete Set (24)

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $1,410.00

Offered is a complete set of this fascinating and very scarce 1930s nonsport-card issue which features scenes and text illustrating the history of espionage from the days of the American Civil War to World War II. "This is a True Spy Story. The names of some of the characters have been changed in order not to embarrass the government." This announcement appears at the top of the reverse of each of the twenty-four cards in Gum, Inc.'s thrilling "True Spy" story cards. Two cards grade Ex-Mt, four Ex, four Vg/Vg-Ex, five Vg-Ex, three Vg, and six Gd (which appear Ex or better from the front but have a small touch a paper loss on the back). The fascinating subject matter and vivid artwork have always made this set a favorite with collectors. This is a very attractive set, with all cards bright and clean, with very few creases, and with an overall appearance far superior to that suggested by our technically accurate grades. At a glance, all but a few cards in this set appear Ex. Most cards have been downgraded from Excellent exclusively due to corner wear, which is mostly very minor. Total 24 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,410.00
