1938 R69 Gum, Inc. "Horrors of War" Yellow Wrapper Variation Set (4)
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $528.75
Collection of all four yellow wrapper variations from the classic 1938 Gum, Inc., “Horrors of War” issue. Each of these wrappers was used to package the classic 1938 Gum, Inc. “Horrors of War,” the most famous and popular of all nonsport cards of the early 1930s. Four different designs were used at different times by Gum, Inc., during the year, each in six different colors. All Horrors of War wrappers are scarce, but some of the wrapper designs saw very limited use and are particularly scarce, making a complete set of all four variations particularly difficult to assemble. This is the first complete set of all four wrappers designs we have had in years. The colorful wrappers are all very attractive, of course, which is not surprising as they were designed specifically to attract attention of youngsters to the company's product on candy store shelves. The four-wrapper set consists of the following: 1) three-figure center design all with two-pointed hats. 2) one-figure center design with cylinder hat. 3) four-figure center design. 4) three-figure center design all with round helmets. Three of the four wrappers are in Vg-Ex condition; one is in Very Good condition. This series of yellow wrappers is rarely offered as a set, and is highly prized by both prewar nonsport-wrapper and card collectors. Total 4 wrappers. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $528.75
