1938 R69 Gum, Inc. "Horrors of War" #89 PSA MINT 9
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,175.00
Graded MINT 9 by PSA. Highest-graded example! Extraordinary ultra-high grade 1938 "Horrors of War" bubble gum card #89, entitled “Woman Photographer Crushed By Loyalist Tank," issued by Gum, Inc. The detailed artwork on this card is a typically gruesome war scene, featuring the first woman photographer ever killed in action. The back of the card explains that "Gerda Taro was covering the Spanish Civil War when she was crushed by a Loyalist tank during the great battle of Brunete on July 26, 1937.” The card has brilliant colors with four razor-sharp corners and perfect centering. As of this writing, a total of only seventy-two "Horrors of War" have ever been graded MINT 9, and only three cards have been graded GEM MINT 10. SMR value is $300. We have found that at auction cards from extremely popular sets with very low populations in the highest grades often sell for far more than SMR, and this is especially the case with classic vintage sets. This is an extremely high-grade 1938 "Horrors of War" card, the highest-graded example. Reserve $200. Estimate $300+. SOLD FOR $1,175.00
