1967 Topps "Twiggy" Test Uncut Card Sheet
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,292.50
Uncut sheet of thirty-six "Twiggy" test cards produced by Topps in 1967. Twiggy, whose real name was Lesley Hornsby, was the first international super model. She epitomized the 1960s mod fashion esthetic, and in 1967 Topps apparently hoped to capitalize on her phenomenal popularity by issuing this almost-never-seen trading card set. It is unknown if the set was ever actually issued to the public. We do not believe that it was ever issued, and if it were not for Topps cleaning out its closets over the past few years and selling unissued items that happened to have been kept, collectors might never have even been aware of the existence of this set. Most collectors would classify this issue as a "test set," both because of its extreme rarity and limited, if any, distribution. The black-and-white
cards capture Twiggy both in portrait shots and candid poses that had been approved by her agent (including one of her posing with Patrick McNee, star of the British television series
). This 36-card sheet represents the complete set of known cards from the set. Aside from a one-inch wide area of light discoloration along the left border (dust shadow), the sheet (29 x 23 inches) remains in Near Mint to Mint condition. The sheet is blank-backed and originates directly from the Topps Vault and is accompanied by a COA from Topps attesting to its provenance.
