1967 Wacky Package Die-Cuts Near-Complete Set (43/44)
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,057.50
Near-complete set of 1967 Wacky Packages includes 43 different of the 44 die-cuts in the set, missing only #38b Cracked Jerk for completion. This is the first set of Wacky Packages ever released. Thirty-three cards range in grade from Vg-Ex to Ex, and ten cards Vg. The die-cut series was the first series of Wacky Packages released in 1967. The success of this set, designed with perforations on card stock with gummed glue on the reverse, predated the sticker format that is most closely associated with Wacky Packs, but these were the first. When Wacky Packs were issued in the late 1960s, kids went wild. Whether it was the times, as youngsters became more enlightened as to the manipulations of Madison Avenue, or the amusing irreverence of the artwork, the set struck a chord with the youth of America, which continues to this day. In the world of Wacky Packs, this first set is both rare and historicaly significant. The set is comprised of the following: #1 Boredom's Instant Coffee, 2a Fearstone Tires, 3 Vicejoy Cigarettes, 4 Camals Cigarettes, 5a Campy Spider Soup, 6a Slum-Maid Raisins, 7 Spray Nit, 8 Lavirus, 9 Paul Maul, 10 Dopey Whip, 11 Cracked Jerk, 12 Crust Toothpaste, 13 Kook-Aid, 14 Alcohol Seltzer, 15a De-Mented Rotten Tomatoes, 16 Pure Hex, 17 Weakies, 18a Schmutz Beer, 19 Minute Lice, 20 Gadzooka Gum, 21a Moron Salt, 22 Liptorn Soup, 23a Muller Beer, 24 Band-Ache Strips, 25 Chock Full o' Nuts and Bolts, 26 Tied Detergent, 27 Mrs. Klean, 28 Breadcrust Corned Beef Hash, 29 Cover Ghoul, 30 Horrid Deodorant, 31 Jail-O, 32b Weakies, 33 Grave Train, 34 Duzn't Detergent, 35 Fink, 36 Maddie Boy, 37a Coronation Evaporating Milk, 39 Hostage Cupcakes, 40 Mutt's Apple Juice, 41 6 Up, 42 Skimpy, 43a Jolly Mean Giant, and 44 Quacker Oats. The set does not include the extremely rare Cracked Animals and Ratz Crackers die-cuts (both of which were withdrawn from production). Wacky Pack die-cuts were often punched out, as intended, or separated from their backgrounds due to handling and their perforated die-cut design. All of the Wacky Pack die-cuts in this set are complete and intact as issued. This is a very sharp-looking, carefully assembled, medium-grade set (minus one card) of one of 1960s most popular nonsport issues, with many cards appearing far better than suggested by their very respectable, technically accurate grades. Total 43 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $1,057.50
