1910 E125 American Caramel Die-cut Eddie Collins
Starting Bid - $1,500.00, Sold For - $21,150.00
Absolutely stunning and unbelievably high-grade E125 American Caramel Die-cut of Hall of Famer Eddie Collins of the Philadelphia Athletics. According to our research, this is one of only two examples of Collins known to exist. The other, which has a crease through its neck, was sold on eBay several years ago for $5,300. E125s have long been held in the highest esteem by advanced collectors both for their extreme rarity, as well as for their very striking and unique design. It would be hard to find a more majestic and striking E125 than this example of Eddie Collins. The fragile nature of all die-cut cards and the easily broken flaps at the base of E125s which allow them to stand, make complete high-grade examples all the rarer. This is an extraordinary example of one of the few Hall of Famers of the set. This E125 Eddie Collins has survived complete, with all flaps intact. The stand-up flaps have never even been folded back. The card is bright and perfectly clean. A very tiny slight surface wrinkle on the extreme top of Collins' head is visible only from the reverse. The reverse of the card, which features a complete checklist of the Athletics in the set and advertising for American Caramels, is also bright and perfectly clean, with bold black text. Graded NM 84 by SGC, with an even stronger Near Mint to Mint appearance, this is a spectacular example of perhaps the rarest of all Eddie Collins cards, from one of the rarest and most condition-sensitive of all caramel card issues, and in our opinion the most impressive-looking as well as finest E125 American Caramel card of any player that we have ever seen in terms of condition. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $5,000+. SOLD FOR $21,150.00
